For years, we gave our undivided attention to football and ignored all other sports. However, the recent news from multiple athletes show that we need to focus, praise and appreciate some of the unnoticed Egyptian heroes. Following the huge milestones reached by the Egyptian U21 handball team which came third in the world championship and the U19 team which actually won the gold medal, Egyptian basketball player, Soraya Mohamed, decided to come with anothe achievement.
During the Women’s Afrobasketball Championship 2019 was held in Dakar, Senegal form 10th to the 18th of August. Twelve national teams participated in the championship including the Egyptian team classified in group (A) to face Ivory Coast and Senegal. The first six teams in the competition are supposed to join the Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo. Unfortunately, Egypt finished seventh missing the opportunity.
However, on the bright side, Egyptian Ahly player Soraya Mohamed was named the top scorer of the championship with 85 points. She also deserved the title “warrior” as she got injured in the last minutes of Ivory Coast match, but she refused to leave the match and insisted to continue till the end provided with first aid.
Soraya aspires to play basketball abroad if she gets a great offer from European club as she mentioned in one of her interviews.
