The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited 842 new members from 59 countries including 9 Arabs. Egyptian screenwriter and director, Amr Salama, producer, Mohamed Hefzy, and the megastar, Yousra were on the list of the new invitees.
Following the #OscarsSoWhite campaign last year, The Academy aimed to reached equity with the new batch of invitees. The choice of invitees impressed almost everyone as half of the new members are women and 29% were people of color.

The Arabs that were inducted this year include Tunisian director Raja Amari, Lebanese writer Jihad Hojeily, and the Lebanese executive producer Georges Schoucair.
The new members are responsible for many things among which is the responsiblity for voting for the annual Oscar winners.
