Every Ramadan, we wait for the various TV series that we all tend to bond over. This year and only 7 days into Ramadan, we found a very unique catch that got us hooked; and that is “Zodiac”.

This show is a crime-thriller fantasy series following a group of university students who encounter a life-threatening scourge. An ancient Egyptian curse, that follows a pattern determined by the victim’s zodiac sign, haunts them, threatening to drop their own lives and those around them one after the other.

The compelling show is based on the best-selling novel “Hazak El-Youm” by the late acclaimed Egyptian Author, Dr. Ahmed Khaled Tawfik. Known as the pioneer of Arabic science fiction, Ahmed Khaled Tawfik always gifts us a thrilling journey in his books. This time it’s greatly mirrored in “Zodiac”.

2- The Cast

One of the best things about this show, is its cast of youth who are all walking gracefully into better light this Ramadan. Starring the show, we see uprising actors Ahmed Khaled Saleh, Mai El-Gheity, Mayan El-Sayed, Khaled Anwar, Hend Abdelhalim, Mohamed Mahran, along with the antagonist Ingy Abuzeid, and the talented Asma Abulyazeid who plays Yomna, the pivotal character who might very likely be the key to solving the show’s main puzzle.

Competing on an international level, this show’s production is exceeding our expectations. It is skillfully written and conceptualized by screenwriter Mohamed Al-Moatasem alongside his team, Menna Ekram, Mohamed Hisham Abiya, Omar Khaled, and Rawia Abdullah. Directed by Mahmoud Kamel and produced by Mohamed Hefzy’s “Film Clinic” in collaboration with “Al-Massa Art Production”, the end product is visually gripping. Needless to mention the music and the costume and production design that definitely added to the aura of enigma and suspense filling the show.

4- The Mystery & The Drama

“Zodiac” is definitely the ultimate cliff-hanger. Until now, every episode hasn’t failed to keep us on the edge of our seats, while still appealing to our emotions. The more we dive into the show, the more it gets complicated, yet closer to plot clarity. It combines the genres of drama and supernatural mystery in a bittersweet mix of fantasy and suspense, provoking our thoughts, stirring our tears, and tickling our humor.

5- Social Reflection

Not only is the show fascinating for its thrilling atmosphere, but also for its social discussion. We see relationships between college students, their relationships with their parents, and even a glimpse of the problems faced due to age gaps between the characters.
