On the 4th of June during a gala dinner held in Dubai, a new Egyptian athletic achievement was taking place.
At the 2017/2018 PSA (professional squash association) Awards, Mohamed ElShorbagy and Nour ElSherbini collected the Player Of The Year awards after a successful season on the PSA World Tour.
Both players have settled themselves on the top ranking since their beginning.
When ElShorbagy was 15, he joined the PSA in 2006 and made great triumphs at a very young age. He won the World Junior Championship twice in 2008 and 2009, and he was the second man to triumph twice after Ramy Ashour. He was ranked for the first time in his career World No. 1 in 2014, then he made it again in 2018.
As for ElSherbini, she claimed the World Junior Champion title in 2009, becoming the youngest ever to claim the title as she was only 13. When she was 14, she entered the world’s top fifty. Three years later she won the World Junior Championship for the third time, and she was the first one to achieve that. She was the youngest World Champion of all time in 2016. After her achievements in the same year, she made it to the World No. 1 for the first time in her career, then again in 2017 and 2018.
Moreover, Egypt is on the top of the present PSA World Tour Rankings. In Men’s World Ranking; Ali Farag, Marwan ElShorbagy and Tarek Moamen claim the 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranks after Mohamed ElShorbagy. And in Women’s World Ranking; Raneem ElWelily and Nour ElTayeb claim the 2nd and 3rd ranks after Nour ElSherbini.
We are super proud of our champions!
