Who of us doesn’t like to cuddle up on the sofa with a hot bowl of popcorn and watch historical battles, and inspiring speeches? Yeah, some of these movies & TV series might not be very accurate but they surely were able to suck us into a different timeline, for us to experience and interact with ancient traditions & laws. So here is some of the best historical work that came across our screens.
The award-winning movie about Sir William Wallace, a Scottish knight who became one of the main leaders during the Wars of Scottish Independence. In the 13th century he single-handedly and by gathering farmers and people of Scotland began a revolution against King Edward I and England itself.
2. The Crown
The highly acclaimed Netflix series chronicles the life of Queen Elizabeth II since the 1940s till our modern days. The series takes us inside of the complicated life of royalty and how at the age of 25 Queen Elizabeth had to take on the role of the Queen after the death of her father King George VI; a life filled with hidden political agendas, betrayal, and love.
3. The Other Boleyn Girl
A closer look at King Henry’s VIII affair with Anne Boleyn who later became Henry’s ill-fated second wife. Her actions during her marriage and reign made her to this day a key figure in political & religious topics. She is even seen as women figure to many, as her influence and actions set in motion of what would become the greatest version of England.
The series details the life of young Mary Stuart, the Queen of Scotland, and how her life is thrown into chaos when she arrives in France in order to complete her marriage to Prince Francis of France. However, Mary doesn’t know that there are forces hidden in the castle, forces of evil & darkness that wishes to see that marriage crumble. Mary now must learn who she can trust in order to secure her marriage, the safety of her throne, and most importantly her life.
5. The Tudors
Another work revolving around the reign of King Henry VIII! A dramatic and gut-wrenching series that follows the reign of King Henry VIII, a young and ambitious king who wanted to leave his mark and legacy in the world through his rule back in the 16th century. However, he was remembered for a completely different reason, King Henry was and still till this day remembered for his six marriages and how most of them ended destructively and some even in death, especially his marriage to Anne Boleyn, the queen who changed the future of England.
6. The White Queen
The series tells the backdrop story of the war of the roses back in 1464, detailing the feud about who’s the rightful heir to the throne. It especially tells the story of the three women; Elizabeth Woodville, Margaret Beaufort, and Anne Neville and how these three equally strong women took part in the war and the feud. A series filled with seduction, love, betrayal, & murder.
