Dina Meshref and Omar Assar on their way to the WTTC

Dina Meshref and Omar Assar are making us proud as they become Egypt’s new champions of African table tennis at the ITTFAfrica Cup in Nairobi, Kenya.

Meshref and Assar will be representing Africa at the World Table Tennis Championship (WTTC) in October this year which will be held in France.

Meshref, 23, retained her crown by defeating Cameroon’s champion Sarah Hanffou in 4-1 sets of 11-2, 11-4, 10-12, 11-6, and 11-8.

Assar, 26, reclaimed the men’s title after losing it in 2015, after dethroning Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri, in a thrilling seven games, winning 11-8.

The 23 years old, Meshref, is considered Egypt’s best table tennis player, she won last years’ ITTFAfrica Cup in Morocco and competed at the 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. While Assar has competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics and won silver and gold medals at the 2011 Arab Games in Doha.
