The hit series, Big Little Lies is set to come back for a new season. This came after the huge success of the first season which led fans to ask for more to the story.
Big Little Lies was written by Australian novelist Liane Moriarty who didn’t plan on having a sequel, but with fans asking for more, both Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon stated that they’re up for a second season as long as Moriarty had more to tell concerning the characters.
As Moriarty wrote down the sequel, she had a character in mind which is Celeste’s mother-in-law and Perry’s mother. Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) is Celeste’s husband who was an abusive, his truth as an abuser and a rapist who raped Jane was revealed during a party where he was later murdered.
While writing the character of Perry’s mother, Liane had Meryl Streep in mind all the way. The character is even named “Mary Louise,” which is Meryl’s real name. The novelist then announced her wish to the producers.
“And the producers were laughing at me because they were saying, ‘You’ve become so Hollywood,’ as in, picking up the phone and saying, ‘Get me Meryl,’” she continued. “They were teasing me… but then they were saying, it’s not beyond the realm of possibilities because Nicole and Meryl are friends.”
Later, Moriarty received an email from Nicole Kidman saying ‘Ask and you shall receive.’
Concerning the second season of Big Little Lies, it was revealed that all three characters; Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley are returning. They’ll have to face Perry’s mom who’s coming to town.
“She deeply loved her son … as much as any mother can love her son,” she said. “She had a slightly fraught relationship with her daughter-in-law, so it’s a very complicated, difficult time.”
Well, we just can’t wait to see what will happen next in Big Little Lies.
