90 Days Later, Ahmad Alaa And Sara Hegazy Are Released

It was decided this Tuesday to release the student Ahmad Alaa and the activist Sara Hegazy on bail of 2000 EGP each (with no appeals from the prosecutor) after 90 days of their captivity since October the 2nd for raising a rainbow flag in a concert.

They were charged with joining communities based on violation of law provisions, promoting these communities’ ideas and beliefs and the incitement to acts of debauchery.

They were arrested after the Music Park concert that featured three bands including Mashrou’ Leila whose lead singer is openly gay. Through the band’s performance, Ahmad and Sara raised a rainbow flag (the LGBTQ+ community flag) that resulted in flooding the internet and media with anger and hate speeches shaming the act.
