The couple had confirmed their engagement in November and said that they will be tying the knot at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The wedding’s date breaks with tradition as royal weddings usually take place on a weekday, the Queen wed on a Thursday and the Duke of Cambridge on a Friday. But Harry and Meghan’s choice will avoid the issue of whether or not the royal wedding should be a Bank Holiday.
Markle will join the Queen and other members of the royal family at Sandringham, the Queen’s private estate in Norfolk, on Christmas Day. Which is a break of tradition as she is the first royal fiancée invited to Sandringham before becoming a member of the royal family.
The wedding falls on the same day as the 2018 FA Cup final at which Prince William, Harry’s brother and best man, usually presents the trophy as the Football Association president.
The event will take place just a month after Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to welcome their third child into the royal family, which will give Kate time to recover.
The Royal family are paying for the wedding, including the church service, the music, the flowers and the reception
