Eman Abdul Aty who made headlines earlier this year for going through a bariatric weight loss surgery in Mumbai had passed away yesterday in the UAE.
The doctors in India have reported that Eman had lost 300kg out of 500kg and that her health was improving three times faster than planned. However, her family had doubts about that and later she was transferred to Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi’s hospital issued a statement that says that the woman who was thought to be the heaviest person had passed away because of multiple reasons including heart disease and kidney dysfunction.
“She had been under the supervision of a medical team of over 20 doctors from different specialities who were managing her medical condition from the time she arrived in the UAE. Our prayers and heartfelt condolences go out to her family,” said the hospital.
Eman’s family stated that prior to the surgery, Eman had been staying in her room for almost 25 years. The case caught the media’s attention after Eman’s sister started an online campaign looking asking people for help.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Eman’s family. May her soul rest in peace.
