Every Tennis fan must have imagined what would happen if the 2 legends, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, combine forces and play side by side. Fortunately, our imagination has just become true because the long-time rivals will make their first appearance on the same side of the court this Saturday evening at a new tennis event called the Laver Cup tournament.
Laver Cup is an international indoor hard court men’s tennis tournament that is named after the Australian tennis legend Rod Laver. Two teams will competer: Team Europe and Team World which is composed of players from the rest of the world. Each team will consist of six players and led by a team captain who will be responsible for selecting the players for singles and doubles during matches.
Team Europe Led by Bjorn Borg will include:
- Roger Federer (Switzerland)
- Rafael Nadal (Spain)
- Marin Cilic (Croatia)
- Dominic Thiem (Austria)
- Alexander Zverev (Germany)
- Tomas Berdych (Czech Republic)
Team World led by John McEnroe will include:
- Jack Sock (USA)
- Sam Querrey (USA)
- John Isner (USA)
- Nick Kyrgios (Australia)
- Frances Tiafoe (Australia) – a late replacement for Juan Martin del Potro (Argentina) who withdrew due to injury
- Denis Shapovalov (Canada)
The tournament will be held in Europe, at the O2 arena, Prague. The location is set to rotate between Europe and the rest of the world cities each year. And while Most of the hard courts around the world are shades of green or blue, the Laver Cup’s court in Prague will be Black.
The international tournament takes place from Friday September 22nd to Sunday September 24th. Games started on Friday and each day features three singles matches and one doubles match.
