Egypt is full of creative minds which need a chance to be discovered, and CDA (Cairo Design Award) is probably the event that will find them every year!
Cairo Design Award is the first design platform in Egypt. An initiative by Mahdy’s Group and The Egyptian National Competitiveness Council and it’s a great chance for Egyptian designers around the world to be noticed. You don’t have to be following a specific style as long as you’re excellent and unique. Obviously, what supports any designer is awards, in addition to competitions and contests, and launching such an event is a great movement in fields of design and industry and a designer’s journey.
This year, the award focuses on 6 categories:
- Interior Design
- Jewellery Design
- Landscape Architecture
- Product Design
- Set Design
Each category is assessed by a judge, and the jury members are; Amr Helmy for product design, Azza Fahmy for jewellery design, Karim Mekhtigian for interior design, Onsi Abou Seif for set design and Tarek Naga for both architecture and landscape.
Here’s how the process will go;
- First, designers will submit their designs which meet the guidelines for each category,
- Then, an online registration is required and designers should pay a fee of EGP 500/submission, there are different means of payment designers can choose from,
and jury members will evaluate entries,
- Then, the top five entries will be selected for shortlisting,
- Finally, winners will be announced during the ceremony event- 3 winners (gold/silver/bronze) in each category.
The Cairo Design Award ceremony event takes place on the 18th and 19th of October, at the Nile Ritz Carlton, Cairo. Submission dates aren’t announced yet. However, you can check the official Facebook page for the announcement and any further details, or through their website.
